19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent the Russian player claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging year, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the American major.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.
Now collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.
It is the player's first title following the Rome competition and first on a hard court since March of that year.
Success also means he has secured 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.
"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is particularly special," commented ranked player the champion.
"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on court had caused some to question if his ability to play at the top level was over.
However the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and play assertively, backed up by an better service.
He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The pair traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.
He rescued four early-game chances in a tight third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Fittingly, he earned victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to control a return after a lengthy match.
